Elegant. Reflective. Heart-on-sleeve.
Who’s on stage
Martin Roscoe is one of the UK’s most established pianists, with a career spanning more than 50 years. He is joined by violinist Fenella Humphreys and cellist Jessica Burroughs, forming a trio known for its thoughtful and assured performances.
Both Roscoe and Humphreys have appeared in recent concerto performances at Newcastle Cathedral.
What they’re playing
Mozart’s Trio is his final work in the genre – poised, balanced and full of quiet charm. Rebecca Clarke’s Piano Trio, written in 1921, reflects the emotional aftermath of the First World War. One of the most significant British composers of her generation, and an accomplished violist, she wrote music that’s introspective, richly textured and full of quiet intensity.
Tchaikovsky’s only Piano Trio brings the programme to a powerful close. Expansive in scale, it combines lyricism and dramatic intensity.
