Join Nik Alevroyiannis, founder of Roda de Samba Newcastle, for an introduction to the vibrant world of the Brazilian Roda de Samba, or Samba circle.
Rooted in Afro-Brazilian culture, the Roda de Samba is much more than a musical gathering. It is a powerful communal tradition shaped by rhythm, song, movement, storytelling and shared cultural identity. Emerging from the African diaspora in Brazil, samba has long been a space for connection, resistance, celebration, and collective expression, bringing people together through call and response, percussion, harmony and improvisation.
The seminar will be followed by a live Roda de Samba, giving you the chance to put your new understanding into practice and experience the joy, groove, and community spirit of this unique Afro-Brazilian musical tradition.
