After an afternoon of Afro-Brazilian music and dance workshops, the celebration continues with Roda de Samba Newcastle and DJ Andrea Robertson, AKA Sistasoul.

This is the perfect chance to experience the music in action after exploring the rhythms, songs, movement and cultural traditions that shape samba. Whether you have taken part in the workshops or are joining us just for the evening, expect a warm, welcoming celebration of music, dance and community in a distinctly Brazilian style.

At the heart of the night is the Roda, a Brazilian samba circle where the music happens right in the middle of the room. There is no stage, no barrier between musicians and audience, and no need to sit still. Just a room full of people singing, dancing, clapping and sharing in the moment together.

Expect timeless Brazilian classics by artists such as Gilberto Gil, Ivete Sangalo and Jorge Ben Jor, performed by some of the UK’s finest musicians in a truly intimate setting. Led by percussionist Nik Alevroyiannis, our house band has been the foundation of Roda de Samba Newcastle from the very beginning. This is a band that does not need a stage. They play from the heart of the crowd, turning every song into a shared celebration.

Adding even more heat to the night, we are delighted to welcome Andrea Robertson, AKA Sistasoul.

Raised in London by a Welsh mother and Caribbean father, Andrea is a DJ, MC and radio host with a deep love of global grooves, soul, reggae, funk, Latin, Afrobeat and dancefloor sounds from around the world. She has taken her music far and wide, from Croatia and Corfu to Great Yarmouth and Whitley Bay, bringing people together through rhythm, warmth and irresistible selections.
As Bob Marley said, “When the beat hits you, you feel no pain.”

So come ready to move, sing, dance and be part of the circle. Whether you spent the afternoon learning the rhythms and steps or you are discovering samba for the first time, this is your invitation to join the party.
