We sat down with South Tyneside-born singer-songwriter Nadine Shah as she prepares to make her BBC Proms debut with Royal Northern Sinfonia.

In this deep-dive interview, Nadine talks about this bucket-list moment in her career and the joys of coming home to the North East and showing off our region at its best. The importance of regional representation, especially for women, and how much Newcastle Gateshead’s music scene has changed in the last decade. And we hear how she picked a set list from her five-album back-catalogue and what it felt like hearing these songs with an orchestra for the first time.

One thing we can all be sure of, this is guaranteed to be a night of big emotions, big sounds and big celebrations of the North East at The Glasshouse.

BBC Proms: Nadine Shah and Royal Northern Sinfonia takes place on Friday 24 July 2026.

She’s joined by orchestra Royal Northern Sinfonia and conducted by Ellie Slorach, plus special guest Knats.
