Who’s on stage
The young violists aged 30 and under through to the second round of the Cecil Aronowitz and Lionel Tertis International Viola Competitions 2025.
What they’re playing
Competitors in the Cecil Aronowitz have a free choice of any viola sonata composed after 1850. Violists taking part in the Lionel Tertis competition have a set list to chose from (listed below). Move between Sage Two and Northern Rock Foundation Hall throughout the day for a variety of truly great works for solo viola.
Need to know
Pricing: £10 per session (plus handling fee). Your ticket allows you to move freely between the two competitions.
Age: under 14s must be accompanied by an adult.

Cecil Aronowitz International Viola Competition
9.30am – 12pm | Northern Rock Foundation Hall
1.30 – 3.30pm | Northern Rock Foundation Hall
Each contestant will perform their choice of a complete viola sonata with piano, composed after 1850.
Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition
9.30am – 12.50pm | Sage Two
1.50 – 5.10pm | Sage Two
