What they’re playing

Marking 50 years since its original release, hear John Williams’ instantly recognisable score for the original Star Wars film – A New Hope played live and in perfect time as the film plays on the big screen. Every fanfare, whisper, and blast of brass landing right on cue.

What's happening in the music?

It starts on a desert planet with a farm boy and a dream. Then suddenly – lightsabers, droids, daring escapes and the pull of something bigger. As Luke Skywalker takes his first steps into a wider universe, the orchestra carries the wonder, the danger and the hope of it all. Played live, the music sparkles, swells and swoops, turning a much-loved film into something freshly magical. Strap yourself in for big thrills, bigger smiles and an out of this world adventure.
