Sibelius' Second Symphony

Who’s on stage
Royal Northern Sinfonia is joined on stage at Middlesbrough Town Hall this afternoon by their Conductor Laureate and long-time friend Thomas Zehetmair.
What they’re playing
Sibelius’ Second Symphony feels like good company from the start – music that’s amiable and warm-spirited. Later on there are gorgeous, expansive musical vistas to be had and Sibelius rachets up the drama as the piece goes on, ending in a blaze of glory and triumph. Mendelssohn’s ‘other’ violin concerto, composed when he was just 13 is a lively delight.
This concert includes a free pre-show talk at 2pm in the auditorium.
