Schubert's Fifth Symphony
Who’s on stage
19 members of Royal Northern Sinfonia join Wooler Arts for this afternoon’s performance.
What they’re playing
Royal Northern Sinfonia return to St Mary’s Church for a Sunday afternoon concert dedicated to Franz Schubert. First is one of his most charming chamber pieces, the Octet in F. A dreamy opening melody will gently sweep you into an hour of gorgeous music that travels from cheerful to wistful to downright dramatic through its six movements. After the interval comes his exquisite Fifth Symphony distilled down for performance by just 19 musicians – a chance to enjoy its understated tenderness in an entirely new, more intimate, way.
