Thomas Adès Three Studies from Couperin
Joseph Haydn Cello Concerto in C Major
Felix Mendelssohn Symphony No. 4 ‘Italian‘

With some pieces, you can just feel the sunshine, and when Mendelssohn’s Italian symphony explodes into sunlit, sparkling life, the music itself seems to leap for joy. For Royal Northern Sinfonia principal conductor Dinis Sousa, it’s the perfect complement for the elegant song-and-dance of Haydn’s Cello Concerto, performed today by one of our own – the RNS’s principal cellist Steffan Morris. But first, something completely different – a subtle, playful and beautiful re-imagining of the graceful music of Baroque composer François Couperin by present-day composer Thomas Adès – music of the past, seen through a modern lens.

Please note change to previously advertised programme.
