Shakir Khan’s performances both inspire and astonish audiences. In this grand evening of playing, he’ll showcase the art of the Sitar with expert tabla accompaniment from Shahbaz Hussain.

About the musicians

Shakir Khan

Shakir Khan

Representing the eighth generation of his musical lineage, sitarist Shakir Khan demonstrates exquisite sur (melody) and laya (rhythm) as part of the Etawah Gharana tradition. Son of sitar maestro Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan, Shakir is one of the most promising young performers carrying on this renowned North Indian style.

He has brillantly brought Etawah Gharana music to prestigious conferences in India and stages worldwide, including the Woodstock Festival in Poland. Shakir’s talent earned him government honors in India along with first prize at the All India Radio Music Competition. His engaging stage presence and ability to adapt his classical knowledge to fusion projects continues to win over audiences globally.
