Charming. Soothsayer. A Canny Chanter.

Richard Dawson announces his new album ‘End of the Middle’, set for release on Friday 14 February 2025. Following his ambitious 2022 release The Ruby Cord, Dawson takes a more intimate approach, crafting a stripped-back collection that explores family dynamics across generations. The album’s first single “Polytunnel” showcases this new direction, presenting a deceptively simple tale of gardening that hints at deeper themes.

Written in his allotment shed overlooking the Tyne valley, ‘End of the Middle’ reflects Dawson’s desire to “be small-scale and very domestic.” To celebrate the release, Dawson will perform at The Glasshouse in May, the perfect setting to experience these carefully crafted new songs in their full, stripped-back glory.

About new single, “Polytunnel”.

Dawson says:

“I think I know what’s happening in the song, but hopefully that’ll be different for each person listening; I like that the line ‘Out the gate and down the lane’ – it could mean going down the allotment, or it could mean going somewhere else. Tunnel is obviously a very loaded word. There’s possibly a lot of drama happening outside of the lines of the song…. Or not. It might just be a song about an allotment.”
