Ravel’s Tzigane

Maria and Kyra

Ravel’s Tzigane

St Mary's Church, Wooler

Who’s on stage

Maria Włoszczowska takes the lead as director for this afternoon’s performance with passionate harpist Oliver Wass and Royal Northern Sinfonia.

What they’re playing

Be transported to Paris in the 1920s with music by the leading composers of the day, Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy. Ravels fiery Tzigane for violin and piano is at the heart of this concert. Passionate, fierce, and full of breathless virtuosity, its a show-stopper from start to finish. His Sonata for violin and cello has a similar Hungarian flavour to it and was written as a tribute to Debussy, whose sensual works for flute and harp complete this afternoon’s programme
