Grace. Power. A musical roller-coaster.
Who’s on stage
A very special guest: Pianist Imogen Cooper. A brilliant pianist, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s a selection of you tubers comments on her and her music-making: “achingly beautiful”, “Always a pleasure to hear”, “Such musicianship and sensitivity”. A rare chance to hear her in a solo concert.
What they’re playing
The big name here is of course Ludwig van Beethoven, with Imogen playing the ‘Eroica Variations’; you may recognise the tune from Beethoven’s Eroica (Heroic) Symphony, and his Sonata in A flat which manages to be graceful and powerful at the same time.

What’s going on in the music
Away from the Beethoven, this concert is like a musical roller-coaster, a dizzying journey that flits between musical eras and styles, with your trip including Bartók’s folk music-infused Bagatelles and modern composer Thomas Adès intriguing ‘remix’ of spine-tingling music by Renaissance composer (think ruffs, pearls and Queen Elizabeth the First) John Dowland.
