Newcastle International Chamber Music Series - Zehetmair Quartet
Intense. Dramatic. Intimate.
Who’s on stage
Thomas Zehetmair, Royal Northern Sinfonia’s former music director, brings his string quartet to The Glasshouse. You might also recognise viola player Ruth Killius from regular guest appearances with the orchestra.
What they’re playing
Anton Webern’s Six Bagatelles are miniatures in the true sense – intense, but fleeting. The first of Brahms’s three popular quartets is, like his first symphony, in the dark and dramatic key of C minor. Sibelius’ only string quartet, like his orchestral music, rooted in the landscape, nature and culture of his native Finland.
