Mozart's Wind Serenade
Who’s on stage
A wind ensemble of musicians from Royal Northern Sinfonia.
What they’re playing
Royal Northern Sinfonia kicks off a new series of concerts at St Mary’s Church with an evening of chamber music for wind and brass instruments. In the first half, you’ll hear two twentieth-century creations: an unusually scored Octet by Stravinsky, featuring two trumpets and two trombones, and a set of six whimsical, action-packed bagatelles by Ligeti for wind quintet. Mozart’s brooding, sometimes sombre, Serenade is full of mystery and intrigue, and an imaginative Octet from early in Beethoven’s career shows a young composer on his way to great things.
What you'll hear
Giovanni Gabrieli Canzon I and II (14’)
Igor Stravinsky Octet (14’)
György Ligeti Six Bagatelles (12’)
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Serenade in C minor (25’)
Ludwig van Beethoven Octet in E-flat major (20’)
