Mozart’s Symphony No. 39

Mozart’s Symphony No. 39

Part of Royal Northern Sinfonia: Out and about

Westmorland Hall, Kendal

Who’s on stage

Royal Northern Sinfonia, Music Director Dinis Sousa and section leader and cellist Eddie Pogossian.

What they’re playing

Mozart could do dark and moody but he’s maybe better known for his upbeat, perky, optimistic music, and that’s definitely what we’ve got here. His Symphony No. 39 does have an element of mystery, but overall it’s a piece full of musical fireworks, with the final movement being nothing short of a triumphant romp, Mozart totally letting his hair down.

Schumann’s Cello Concerto, on the other hand drifts like a quiet conversation – graceful, elusive, and full of delicate turns, where beauty hides in whispers rather than grand gestures.

This performance includes a free pre-concert talk at 6.30pm in the auditorium.
