After being signed to Sony Music in the early 90s, for whom he recorded 2 albums and achieved Top 40 chart success, Martyn became a trailblazer for independent musicians. He launched his own record label in 1999 and forged a successful career using the internet, ahead of many other artists.
He has the rare ability to speak to the soul with his expressive and poignant lyrics. With a career spanning over 40 years, 28 studio albums, over a half a million record sales, thousands of live performances and many other highlights, it’s a great time to see Martyn live.

In November 2025 Martyn released his 28th studio album, Troubled Horses, a haunting, pared back record.
He’s penned and performed two tracks for the “21st Century Folk” project. Chapel Porth Beach, in 2024, marked the 200th Anniversary of the RN and Albert’s Place which featured in the original 2023 series. He was commissioned by Parliament in 2015, for the “Sweet Liberties” project, to write the song Nye (Song for the NHS) marking the 500th anniversary of the Magna Carta’s signing
He’s won awards including Folk Album of The Month in Mojo for his album 1960 (2021) and a Wales Folk Award for Here Come the Young. Dubbed “The Welsh Springsteen” for his passion and social awareness, he’s also been compared to John Mayer, Bruce Cockburn and Dave Matthews. But Martyn’s created his own style and is a mesmerising live performer in his own right.
In his music, he engages with challenging and topical subjects underpinned with a promise of hope.Martyn and his wife Justine are founders of the Let Yourself Trust helping grassroots organisations across the globe. They’ve raised over a million pounds for over 20 different projects in the last 11 years.
