Lanterns On The Lake released their studio album, Spook The Herd in February 2020 which was later nominated for the much coveted Mercury Prize. With their atmospheric and celestial post-rock sound, they are a band of under-stated, local heroes and are friends who have had a long partnership with Sage Gateshead.

We are thrilled and proud of their recognition as one of the most important bands of 2020, and in a year which has seen their live plans to promote their album cancelled, we are delighted to be able to present this one off special performance, showcasing the album in its entirety.

As the band themselves put it: “As with a lot of musicians in the North East, playing at Sage Gateshead was always a huge aspiration for us as a young band, so when in 2011 we got the chance to play our hometown show in Hall Two as part of the tour promoting our first album it was something of a dream come true. It would have been even more so if we’d realised how our relationship with Sage Gateshead would develop over time; that over the coming years we’d move to Hall One to play our own headline show, support our heroes Explosions In The Sky, collaborate, perform and record with Royal Northern Sinfonia and even record our performance for The Hyundai Mercury Music Prize there. So to have the chance to play Spook The Herd live for the first time at a venue we have such a deep affection for, and at a time when venues, artists and the cultural sector in general are so badly affected by the pandemic is a wonderful and fitting opportunity for us, as well as a chance to show that amongst all this madness at least there is still some music to be found.” | Facebook | YouTube
