Kris Drever’s one of Scotland’s finest contemporary music exports. He’s celebrated for his warm voice, expressive guitar playing and imaginative and evocative songwriting. Raised in the Orkney Islands, Drever’s carved out a unique place between traditional folk and modern acoustic music, as a solo artist and as one third of the award-winning group Lau.
Across his career, Kris has won hatfuls of honours. The BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for Best Singer, Best Original Song, and Best Group with Lau. His solo work combines deep, authentic lyrics with expertly pitched arrangements, exploring themes of place, identity, and social change. All delivered with clarity, compassion, and poetic insight.
At his Gateshead show in April 2026, Kris will be playing brand-new songs from his upcoming album plus others from his back catalogue of originals and his storied interpretations of traditional material. Support comes from special guest Annie Dressner.

Annie Dressner is New York City-born and Cambridge-based musician. Brimming with razor sharp wit, emotional poignancy and glorious melodies, Annie’s straightforward lyrical style, smart wordplay and lilting vocals offer listeners a front row seat to her captivating stories.
Annie’s released four albums and her music has been played extensively across UK radio, including recording a live session for Gideon Coe on BBC 6 Music. Her recent single “For The Thrill Of It” features Kathryn Williams and is a scathing commentary about sexual harassment within the music industry. She’s played shows with Badly Drawn Boy and Bernard Butler (Suede), and festivals like Green Man, Secret Garden Party and Cambridge Folk Festival. She was one of the break-out performers at AmericanaFest UK 2025.
