Jan Akkerman tours the UK as part of his 80th Birthday Celebrations. Jan gained international fame in Focus with whom he recorded hit albums including ‘Focus Plays Focus / In and Out of Focus’ (1970), ‘Focus II/Moving Waves’ (1971) which reached charted at #2 in the UK, #4 in the Netherlands and #8 in the US, going Gold. It spawned the mega-hit Hocus Pocus that’s been heard on numerous adverts plus TV shows and films like Top Gear, Hot Fuzz, Skins, Baby Driver and Shameless.
In 1973 Akkerman was named ‘World’s Best Guitarist’ by Melody Maker in a ‘Top 10’ including Eric Clapton, Steve Howe, Jimmy Page, John McLaughlin and Mick Ronson.
Including live albums, Jan’s released 30 solo albums and has collaborated with a number of musicians ranging from Alan Price, Jack Bruce and Ice T.
He counts fellow legends Brian May, B.B. King and Yes’ guitarist Peter Banks as fans of his work.
Expect to hear music from Jan’s long career including his favourtie Focus tunes and more recent compositions.

About the band
Jan’s joined on stage by:
Coen Molenaar, who studied Jazz Piano with Bert van de Brink, Jasper van het Hof and Michiel Borstlap at the Utrecht Conservatory between 1989-1996 and since 2011 has taught at the Haarlem Conservatory. His worldwide work includes jazz, fusion, dance, funk, R&B, rock and neo-soul styles.
Marijn van den Berg who’s worked with Jan since 2002. He’s a graduate of the Conservatory of Hilverusm and University of Miami. When not working with Jan he mainly does TV and session work.
David de Marez Oyens, who studied bass guitar and double bass at the Hilversum Conservatory and took arranging lessons with Jerry van Rooijen, Rik Elings and Kenny Napper. Since 1985, he’s been teaching at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. He’s toured plus given clinics and seminars on jazz, pop, latin, rock, fusion and Indian rhythms across the world.
