Hector Gannet return to Sage Two with The Great Shakedown, their most expansive and searching record to date. Built around bold brass arrangements and featuring choir and church bells recorded live at the 17th-century Christ Church in North Shields, the album moves between the intimate and the political, the personal and the communal.

From the brass jabs and stabs (echoing Dexys) of the title track to the jazz-tinged trombone of Big White Telephone, the arrangements are a constant presence, sometimes driving, sometimes lounging, always purposeful. The album is a journey, closing with a reprise and amalgam of the record’s threads, resulting in a powerful rallying cry for people to unite.
