What's happening in the music

Dvořák’s Cello Concerto is one of those pieces where when you hear it you go “oh it’s THIS one”. It’s full of great tunes, tugs on your heartstrings, takes you from wistfulness to triumph in a few minutes and basically has all the necessary ingredients for a very enjoyable musical half hour. Schumann’s symphony is less well known, but for no good reason. As it’s title implies, it’s fresh, zesty and springlike, and an optimistic closing piece for our last concert before the summer.

And the curiosity…

Imagine for one moment you’re not sitting in a concert hall but are instead deep within a forest…this is where Kristine Tjøgersen’s Between Trees takes you. Her imagination is amazing – you’ll hear a squirrel eating, be taken underground so you feel you’re among the roots of the trees, and above ground you hear fluttering wings and bird song. A truly unique listening experience!
