The Glasshouse International Centre for Music and Jazz North East present:
Daniel Erdmann's Thérapie de Couple
plus D'Accord!
Continental. Varied. Sax and relationships counselling.
It’s time for a couple to settle their differences. The couple in question? France and Germany- The engine of Europe, which now and then finds itself in crisis. Daniel Erdmann knows both sides very well, the differences, the similarities, the possible misunderstandings, the psychology of the two countries making him the perfect counsellor.
To help him, Daniel has put together a new French-German sextet. Opting to work with a combination of those he already knows very well and having the security that comes with that and inviting completely new people who bring with them the desire and magic of uncertainty to spice things up.
DJ and journalist Stewart Smith will be spinning jazz vinyl in the bar.

About Thérapie de Couple
Daniel Erdmann has been travelling between Germany and France for over 20 years. German-French and European projects are at the centre of his work, in which he has been supported by Philippe Ochem and the Jazzdor Festival from the very beginning. Jazzdor is once again a partner and sponsor for the new band.
This performance is part of The Green Pilot Tours – a project by Europe Jazz Network (EJN), co-funded by the European Union under the Creative Europe programme 2022-2024.
Daniel Erdmann and the band are touring the UK with support from EJN Green Pilot Tours – an initiative by Europe Jazz Network members to reduce the carbon footprint of international touring. The artists have arrived from France and Germany by train or other means of green transport. We encourage you to do the same for your (hopefully shorter) journey to The Glasshouse this evening.
About The Ensemble
Don’t miss this chance to see this spellbinding ensemble of virtuoso players on their first ever visit to the UK: the young French clarinettist Hélène Duret, currently touring France with her band Suzanne. Hi-energy drummer Eva Klesse and bassist Robert Lucaciu, two established greats of the German jazz scene, and the phenomenal expressive talents of French string soloists Théo Ceccaldi and Vincent Courtois.

Plus D'Accord!...
Opening the concert will be the premier performance of a special artist collaboration between French and UK jazz musicians; D’Accord! The group features the talents of:
D’Accord members:
- Francesca Pidgeon, DIY composer and multi-instrumentalist from Manchester, is the creative mind behind art-pop collective Dilletante and a mainstay of B.C Camplight’s band
- Newcastle’s John Pope is an open-hearted improviser and bassist, best known for being one third of genre-defying Archipelago and leading his own Quartet.
- Naïssam Jalal, born in Paris from Syrian parents, searches for freedom in her music, authentically bridging multiple cultures in her collaborations and her touring, from Egypt and Lebanon to Tunisia and Palestine.
- Originally from Guadeloupe, now Paris-based, drummer Arnaud Dolmen brings his background of gwoka and jazz into his energetic playing and musical partnerships throughout the world.
Initiated by Manchester jazz festival (mjf) and The Glasshouse, with support from Centre National de la Musique (CNM) in Paris, D’Accord! is a new programme bringing together northern artists that have journeyed through our artist development programmes with breakthrough French artists. It offers them an invaluable opportunity to broaden their international horizons and develop partnerships with overseas artists.
Devising sessions will take place at The Glasshouse and this exclusive musical partnership will be premiered here and at mjf.
