The Chorus of Royal Northern Sinfonia and Durham University Choral Society celebrate the 150th birthday of Ralph Vaughan-Williams with three live performances of a beautiful choral reimagining of Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis in the stunning acoustic of Durham Cathedral.

The choral reimagining was first arranged by Chorus Director Timothy Burke in 2020 for The World How Wide, a lockdown music-making project for the Chorus of Royal Northern Sinfonia, Quay Voices and a community choir of singers from across the North East. It takes the text of the ancient psalm – Why fum’th in sight – that Tallis set to music in the 1600s and weaves the words into the glorious melodic lines that Vaughan Williams created in 1910, creating a brand-new experience for the 21st century.

i Useful Information

The performances will take place at 1.30pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm and last approximately 20 minutes.
