Brahms' String Sextet

Brahms' String Sextet

Part of Royal Northern Sinfonia: Out and about

The Witham, Barnard Castle

Who’s on stage

With six of Royal Northern Sinfonia’s string players instead of the usual four, the sound will be richer, deeper, and more golden – like warm autumn light compared to bright summer sun.

What they’re playing

Brahms’s String Sextet is chamber music at its most generous.  There’s warmth and tenderness in every movement but it’s not all sweetness, you’ll hear flickers of heartbreak too. It’s the sort of piece that wraps around you and stays with you long after the last note fades.

What you'll hear

Johannes Brahms String Sextet in G major
