Brahms' Clarinet Quintet
Who’s on stage
Musicians from our own Royal Northern Sinfonia, directed by Maria Włoszczowska.
What they’re playing
It’s a Brahms double bill tonight, showing two different sides of his personality. The Clarinet Quintet is, on the surface, lush and beautiful, with some beautiful song-like tunes. But the overall impression is of something darker, more brooding, yearning. The Serenade is all smiles though – warm, outgoing and optimistic.
