BBC Proms at Sage Gateshead: Self Esteem & Royal Northern Sinfonia

Self Esteem
Robert Ames conductor
Royal Northern Sinfonia
support: Divorce
Rebecca Lucy Taylor joins Royal Northern Sinfonia and Robert Ames in Gateshead for a special celebratory show which promises to put the Pop in Proms. As Self Esteem, Taylor is one of the most relatable voices in British music, combining big bold choruses with lyrics whose honesty, humour and directness have won the Rotherham-born singer an ever-growing list of fans since the release of her 2021 album Prioritise Pleasure.
Self Esteem channels everyday experiences to create confessional anthems that have made her live shows cathartic, emotional and empowering events. For this unique performance expect the power of Self Esteem to hit like never before.
Robert Ames is a conductor, curator and arranger who has worked with artists including Radiohead, Frank Ocean and DJ Shadow, and in 2022 conducted Royal Northern Sinfonia playing Philip Glass’ Bowie Symphonies, as well as the first video game prom at BBC Proms 2022.
This special collaboration between artist, orchestra and conductor will be one of the defining moments of BBC Proms 2023. With support from 456 Presents.
‘I’m delighted to be returning to Sage Gateshead to play the first ever BBC Proms festival weekend outside of London and to work with Royal Northern Sinfonia on some arrangements of my songs!’ – Self Esteem
