Our Café

We’re open most of the time the building is – but not always right to the end.

  • On non-show days, we usually close around 30 minutes before the building closes.
  • On show nights, we close up just after the interval. See what’s on our Café menu.

Our Shop

Our shop is open from 12pm when the building is open – but not always right to the end.

  • On non-show days, we usually close around 30 minutes before the building closes.
  • On show nights, we close up just after the interval. See what’s in our shop.

Frequently asked questions

I’m driving, do you have a car park?

Yes. Our car park is right behind the venue, just a short walk (less than 200m) from our doors. Since we manage it ourselves, the fees go towards supporting live music for everyone, regardless of age or ability. Location ID for payment: 686894.

Tip: The car park has a different postcode – use NE8 2BA in your sat nav.

We’ve recently introduced some changes to our car park. These updates are designed to make parking quicker and easier, so you can spend less time parking and more time enjoying live music with us. Read our frequently asked parking questions to help plan your visit.

I’m booking with a group – is there a limit to how many of us can come together?

Nope. The more the merrier. If you’re booking 11 or more tickets, you’ll need to contact the Box Office direct on 0191 443 4661.

Are you a cashless venue?

Yes. We’re now cashless across all our food and drink outlets. Cards, mobile devices and smart watches are all accepted. Going cashless means faster service, shorter queues and a smoother visit for everyone.

Do you have a cloakroom?

Yes – it’s tucked in right by our Box Office, near the West entrance (on the side of the building nearest the Tyne Bridge) and it’s open whenever there’s a performance on.

There’s no charge to leave your coats and bags, but there’s a chance to donate a few pounds. We’re a charity, so anything you give helps us make sure all our live music opportunities are available to anyone – no matter their age, background, abilities, or how much money they have. Read more about our bag policy.

Can I bring my bag with me into the gig or concert?

Small bags are fine. But if you have a backpack (of any size) or a bag bigger than 210mm x 297mm (that’s the size of a piece of A4 paper) then you’ll need to leave it in our cloakroom (free of charge).

If you have medical or access requirements, we can make exceptions – just let us know ahead of your visit and we’ll make a plan with you. Contact Box Office at boxoffice@theglasshouseicm.org or give us a ring on 0191 443 4661.

To keep everyone safe, we’ll check everyone’s bags when they arrive. To help keep things smooth, try to pack light! We have a cloakroom but it’s pretty small so we appreciate the support on this one.

From time to time, we may need to update our bag check procedures based on advice from our security team. If anything changes, we’ll make sure to keep you in the loop.

Read more about our bag policy.

Can I bring my drink with me into the gig or concert?

Depends how easy it is to spill. Obviously we don’t want people on the lower levels getting accidently drenched, so if you’ve got an open drink then you can only bring it in if you’re on Level 1. (That goes for both our halls – Sage One and Sage Two).

But if you’ve got a bottle of water or a soft drink with a screw cap, then you can take it in on any level.

Can I take pictures in the halls?

We know it will be a night you want to remember, so we’re fine with you taking pictures and videos during the performance – as long as they’re only for personal use. (If you want to use professional stuff like tripods, sound recording equipment, or SLR / DSLR cameras then you’ll need to talk to us first. Just contact our Box Office team and we’ll let you know what’s possible).

The main thing is to make sure you’re not disturbing the people around you. That means turning off your flash, keeping your screen brightness nice and low, losing any shutter sounds, and not filming for too long – being sure not to block anyone’s view.

For some shows, such as our classical concerts, we ask for you to wait until between pieces of music when the audience is applauding to take pics. Many audience members come to these shows to really enjoy ‘being in the moment’ and love to concentrate during the music, phone cameras can be really distracting no matter how hard you try to be discrete. We’d like everyone to have a brilliant time.

Can I smoke or vape in the building?

Nope, sorry. You can’t smoke anywhere in our building – even e-cigarettes. But there are spots just outside if you want to pop out during an interval.

What do I do if I see someone behaving in a way that’s worrying or bothering people?

We want everyone to be able to enjoy live music with us. So if anyone’s acting in a way that spoils the experience – like being intimidating or aggressive, or putting themselves or other people in danger – just let us know and we’ll take care of it. You can reach out to a steward or talk to anyone working in our café, bars, or Box Office.

Have you got booster cushions?

Absolutely. We want everyone to be able to see what’s happening on stage. We have plenty for everyone, so just pick one up from either our Welcome Desk, Box Office, or on your way into the hall.

I lost something while I was in the building – what now?

Gutted. We’ll do everything we can to help you find it. Just fill out our Lost Property form so we know exactly what we’re looking for and how to get in touch with you, then we’ll have a look around ASAP.
