Variations - 'Time No Time' by Tune-Yards

Tune-Yards, 'Time No Time'

In space no one can hear you scream. Weightless, Merrill Garbus and Nate Brenner float in the silence of space, viewing the world through the eye of a hurricane, mouthing ‘there is no more time’. Driving melodic basslines, swirling synths, vocal harmonies, the imagery is reminiscent of Bowie ‘floating in a most peculiar way’ in Space Oddity. There is no more time, humanity is in flames, the age of innocence is behind us. Life on Earth as we know it has ended, the world will go on without us. Tune-Yards bring us a celebration of sunshine mixed with horrific mistakes humankind has made and continues to make, with a powerful warning of impending climate catastrophe. All of this illustrated with strong 1970s Pearl and Dean ‘Asteroid’ chorus vocals. Tune-Yards Time No Time celebrates the next generation moving us into the future.

Tune-Yards:

We’re thrilled to be a part of Variations that spotlights the work and goals of COP26.  It’s rare that we get the chance to directly connect our music with the push towards global net zero — a push that must happen immediately if we’re to steer the planet away from total catastrophe.
