The student plug

Your guide to student discounts, coffee stops, study spots and things to do at The Glasshouse.

Yes, we put on concerts. Some seriously good ones, actually. But you don’t need to know your Beethoven from your Beyoncé to feel at home here.

Looking for student discounts, affordable gigs or free things to do in Newcastle and Gateshead? The Glasshouse is just across the river, with live music, places to study, coffee and plenty of reasons to pop in.

Come to The Glasshouse. Grab a coffee, get your head down with coursework, meet your mates or catch a free gig. There’s plenty happening beyond the concert hall, and you don’t need a ticket to pop in and see what’s going on.

We know student budgets aren’t bottomless, either. Flash your student ID for 20% off our Café and Shop on the first Saturday of every month, or pick up tickets to selected classical concerts for just £10 if you’re aged 18–30.

When is The Glasshouse open?
Opening times vary, so check before you pop in. See opening times.

Do I need a ticket?
Nope. You’ll need a ticket for concerts and some events. But you can just pop in for a coffee, coursework or free things.

Where is The Glasshouse?
Right on the Gateshead Quayside, next to the Tyne. Plan your journey.

Can I get student discount?
You bet. Get 20% off our Café and Shop on the first Saturday of every month with your student ID.

Touch grass. Save cash.

The fresh air’s free, the river views are priceless, and your student ID gets you 20% off in our Café and Shop on the first Saturday of every month.

Stretch your legs on a wholesome wander along the Tyne, take in the river views and make The Glasshouse your pit stop for a coffee, a bite to eat or a nosey around the Shop.

A crowd of people at a concert in Sage One cheer enthusiastically, raising their arms and clapping.

Under 30s

Society socials. Post-lecture pints. The same old Big Market night out. We love the classics, but how about trying the original ones? These bangers were bringing the house down long before the Bigg Market.

Selected classical concerts are just £10 for ages 18–30, with a ice-cold pint or soft drink and free Metro travel to get there and back.

Get stuck into the drama, the big sounds and the buzz of a live orchestra – all without your student loan taking a standing ovation-sized hit.

Under 30s Concerts

Get your head down. Look up occasionally.

If your bedroom has become a doom-scrolling den, the library’s packed and the café table feels like it comes with a time limit, bring your laptop to The Glasshouse instead.

We’ve got fast-free Wi-Fi, charging points, bucket-loads of natural light and coffee close by. Get your work done, take a breather and enjoy a view that’s considerably better than your laundry pile.
