Remembering Lars Vogt

On Monday 5 September, we received the sad news that Lars Vogt, our much-loved Music Director from 2015-2020 has died after a battle with cancer. He passed at home and with loved ones.

Lars’ commitment, compassion and sheer musical brilliance as Music Director of Royal Northern Sinfonia won him friends and admirers everywhere. We will cherish our memories of performing with him across the North and around the world. His impact on our orchestra and our audiences will long live on.

We will dedicate our season opening concert to him. Taking place on Saturday 17 September, it will feature Mozart’s C minor Mass and Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.4. Fittingly, this concert is the first in a series during 2022/23 that explores music and spirituality. For those who can’t join us in person, it will also be streamed live.

We hope this performance, recorded at his last appearance with the orchestra in May this year, will be a hopeful reminder of the long-lasting power of music.

All good wishes

Everyone at RNS and Sage Gateshead
