What was the first record you bought?

My earliest recollection is The Best of the Bee Gees on cassette tape.

Where in the world would you like to play that you have not already?

The west coast of America.

Who was the first band/artist you ever saw perform live?

Take That at a school disco, although they weren’t singing live, they were certainly dancing live!

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Deep question! Probably to be free of desire, to have what I need.

Who are your favourite writers?

Truman Capote, Richard Yates, John Fowles, John Steinbeck.

Who are your favourite painters?

Picasso, Magritte, Bernard Buffet

If you could collaborate with any other artists, living or dead, who would you choose?

Too many to name but Brian Eno and Sufjan Stevens would be up there.

What are you listening to at the moment?

I’m going through a lot of my old records and have rediscovered Gillian Welch’s The Harrow and the Harvest. I’m really enjoying Big Thief’s last few records and a friend got me into an album called Pope Killdragon by Strand of Oaks, which is on my playlist.

Where’s your favourite place to go on holiday?

I don’t go on holiday- I’m always working! I take the small pleasures though; coffee in my favourite cafe.

Best advice you can give to emerging talent?

Corny as it may sound stay true to your intentions by and large, otherwise it’ll always seem a bit fake.
