Newcastle trio Knats are about to give ‘Geordie jazz’ its BBC Proms debut as they perform as part of BBC Proms with Nadine Shah and Royal Northern Sinfonia.

Presenter Maia Beth met bassist Stan Woodward, drummer King David-Ike Elechi and trumpeter Ferg Kilsby, to hear more about their incredible year, bouncing from critically acclaimed album ‘A Great Day Out in Newcastle’ and international gigs to a homecoming at The Glasshouse in their second BBC Proms appearance.

They talk about what audiences can look forward to from their Prom and their love of being back in the North East and Newcastle’s growing music scene. And how important it is for the next generation of music makers to see themselves represented on stage, whatever kind of music they want to play.

This is a Prom for everyone.

“Having something like the Proms is such a perfect opportunity to inspire that one person who might be thinking about playing drums or guitar or piano. Going to see Nadine and the whole orchestra playing and be like, I want to play violin one day, I want to do that. I want to play at The Glasshouse”.
