The Glasshouse welcomes investment in the North East and new era for our charity
As you might have noticed if you’ve been to visit us recently, work has started on the new arena and conference centre on the site between The Glasshouse International Centre for Music and Baltic. Sage Group, a friend to our charity who have supported us from the start, will be the naming partner for this new development, which will be called ‘The Sage’. Set to open in 2024, The Sage will be operated by ASM Global, a global commercial company.
“Following the completion of the new development, Gateshead Quayside will be a unique destination in Europe, with culture, entertainment, business, retail and hospitality all in this iconic location overlooking the Tyne. From our long association we know Sage to be a fantastic partner and welcome their further investment in the development and the region.” – Abigail Pogson, Managing Director
This presents us with a great opportunity to change our name and develop a new brand as we near our 20th anniversary in 2024. We have spent the last year talking to audiences and partners about our future and are developing a new strategy for 2023 onwards. Our new name and brand will reflect this conversation and bold plans for our work in music, technology and with young people – all inspired by a steadfast commitment to international excellence and inclusion. A new name will also provide clarity about the different organisations operating at Gateshead Quayside.
Sage Group will stay a close partner to our charity, supporting future initiatives and collaborations as Founding Partner. We remain a charity, distinct and independent from our new commercial neighbours.
For now, nothing changes – we are here for audiences, for artists, for the North and for the long term. We are looking forward to sharing more about this new chapter in our charity’s journey in the next few weeks.
