The Glasshouse is introducing even more ways to enjoy music with its Mix Tape programme. In a hand-picked lineup of sound and sensation, five events will take place from Friday 29 August to Sunday 31 August, with more to be announced throughout the year.
Volume 1. will blend the mellow and the high-energy – drift through slow yoga to live piano, boogie on a baby-friendly dancefloor, sip afternoon tea to Paul Simon’s Graceland and catch Oasis on the big screen, all in the venue’s Northern Rock Foundation Hall.
Kicking off on Friday 29 August, film fans can watch Oasis: Supersonic – On the Big Screen. The venue will dim the lights, crank up the volume and roll out the beanbags for the documentary that captures the raw, loud, unfiltered rise of one of Britain’s biggest bands.
On Saturday 30 August, Jo Hutton, founder of Yoga for Tired People, will lead Yoga in Harmony. Every breath, posture and pause will be guided by pianist Paul Taylor playing live. Soft sounds will drift through the air, a calm energy filling the space – movement and music in perfect balance.
There’s a chance to relive rave days with little ones in tow at Little Groovers on Saturday 30 August. Among bubbles and glow sticks, a live DJ will spin tunes to get very small dancers going big on one joyful family dancefloor.
Discover where music lives and grows on The Glasshouse Tour on Sunday 31 August. Join the venue’s friendly guides to explore world-class concert halls and peek inside rehearsal rooms, with plenty of insider insights along the way. It’s for anyone who’s music-mad, architecture-obsessed, or just loves a good story.
On Sunday 31 August, hear Paul Simon’s Graceland at Afternoon Tea and Tracks. Music lovers can tuck into scones, sandwiches and patisseries while settling in for a journey through one iconic record, hosted by a liner notes lover. Great music, sweet bites and plenty of tasty chat along the way.
Mix Tape is something new for The Glasshouse – a fresh way to bring people together. Alongside the venue’s gigs, classes and more, it’s a chance to revel in music in sociable, surprising ways. Whether that’s sharing a dancefloor, swapping stories over tea, or feeling zen to live sounds, it’s all about connecting through music.

About The Glasshouse International Centre for Music
The Glasshouse International Centre for Music is a home for live music lovers.
It’s a place where you can hear rock legends or pop icons on the same night as folk trios or string quartets. Where new musicians are nurtured and showcased on the same stages as platinum-selling performers. And where youth choirs and tambourine-shaking toddlers practise in the same spaces as its acclaimed orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia.
Because as an international centre for music they’re focused on creating and celebrating outstanding music – whether that’s unearthing or growing talent from the region or bringing the world’s best artists to their stages. And as a charity they’re focused on making sure all of that is available to anyone – no matter where you’re from, how old you are, how much money you have, or what challenges you face.
Which is why every year more than 2 million people are able to join for top-notch gigs, concerts, and classes – in their venue at Gateshead Quays, out in communities across the North East, and through livestreamed performances and digital lessons.
Whether you’re making it up or taking it in, you’ll find music lives and grows there.
