Matt Owens
British born singer-songwriter and musician Matt Owens first came to prominence as a founder member of indie-folk band Noah and the Whale. Releasing four albums, Noah and the Whale achieved huge success in the UK and overseas, selling over one million albums in the UK alone. The band toured the world between 2006 and 2015, playing hundreds of festivals, including Austin City Limits, Fuji Rocks and Lollapalooza, as well as touring with the likes of Arcade Fire, Bahamas, and Laura Marling
In 2016 Matt formed the band Little Mammoths, releasing the critically acclaimed debut album Phantom Dreams, and 2017’s follow up Cargo for the Road. The band toured the UK and Ireland on a regular basis, becoming something of a festival favourite at Wilderness and Loopallu and playing an unprecedented 6 sets at 2017’s Glastonbury Festival.
February 2019 saw the release of Matt’s debut solo album, “Whiskey and Orchids.” It is an album that sits closest to “Americana” with its campfire storytelling hinting at some of Matt’s favourite artists Neil Young, Jason Isbell and Warren Zevon. Acclaimed musician and producer Nigel Stonier produced the album which featured Tom Waits’ drummer Michael Blair, Thea Gilmore, Carleigh Aikins from Bahamas, and Robert Vincent.
The album’s already received substantial Radio play, from BBC 6 Music, BBC Scotland, BBC Wales and Matt took over for an hour and a half one Radio 5 live, playing 6 tracks live in between an indepth interview. A UK Tour supporting Thea Gilmore, (and playing in her band) is locked in for May either side of which Matt will be touring constantly and playing a festival run as far flung as Ullapool to Westport while playing an hour long show at 7pm at The Rabbit Hole at Glastonbury Festival.
