And remember, being our Champion means doing good for the region
The North East has a lot going for it – a top Premier League club, too many epic bridges to count, and hard-working, dead canny folk. But there’s also many people who are finding money’s tight, lots are struggling with their health, and too many youngsters are having a tough time in school.
So seeing and making music should be an option for everybody in our region. Because people tell us all the time, music makes them happy and healthy.
And because especially for children and young people, learning music leads to new skills, new-found confidence, and new dreams. Thousands of children and young people from all across the region learn music with us, and for most this is free. Because tomorrow’s musicians, innovators and community champions are here, and we are committed to investing in the next generation now.
How about you?

Fenwick Christmas Window
The Fenwick Christmas Window has been a North East tradition for over 50 years – a festive moment that brings families together and marks the start of Christmas in the region.
In 2022, Fenwick joined The Glasshouse as a Business Champion to create a partnership around the Christmas Window. We produced the music that soundtracked the display, with Royal Northern Sinfonia bringing the story to life for thousands of visitors.
After that success, we kept collaborating. We mixed things up by inviting local folk band The Unthanks, one of our Artistic Partners, to create the music in 2024, delivered and guided by The Glasshouse team. The displays felt even more personal, rooted in local creativity and identity, generating strong media coverage and online engagement.
For Fenwick, the partnership added a fresh creative layer to one of their most iconic traditions, and strengthened their brand as a champion of regional talent. Together, we turned a much-loved tradition into something even more meaningful – proudly made in the North East, for the North East.
“Creative industries are a key growth sector for the UK. Partnering with cultural icon The Glasshouse has given us access to world-class musicians from Royal Northern Sinfonia, enabling us to create a unique recording and soundtrack for the award-winning and iconic Fenwick Christmas Window at our Newcastle flagship store. We are proud to champion live music and creativity, helping make the region an even more vibrant and attractive place to live, work and perform.” Leo Fenwick, Strategic Partnerships Director, Fenwick
Northumbrian Water
When Northumbrian Water joined us as a Business Champion in 2024, we built a partnership based on shared values – sustainability, community and real impact.
We focused on what Northumbrian Water does best: water. Their team ran their first-ever water audit of a non-domestic site at The Glasshouse, checking every system and fitting to boost efficiency. They fitted 250 aerators, tested hundreds toilets for leaks, and shared practical tips for long-term savings.
To tell the story, we filmed the process with staff from both sides. The film’s been seen by gig audiences, livestream viewers in 50+ countries, and at sustainability events – including one hosted here at The Glasshouse.
We now use far less water each year, cutting waste and costs. Northumbrian Water gained new data, case studies and a regional success story to share with clients.
This partnership proved the power of doing things differently. Together, we showed how shared values can create real, measurable change for our environment and communities.
