Autumn Studios 2026 FAQs

What will I be doing each day at Autumn Studios?

You will have your own rehearsal room here at The Glasshouse. So it’s up to you how you use your time during the five day residency. We will have some industry sessions. It’s up to you how much you’d like to get involved!

Please note that we do not have recording studios. If recording is a key part of your residency then you will need to bring your own recording equipment.

How does the selection process work?

Your application will be assessed by a panel including a member of The Glasshouses Artist Development team and programming team and someone from the North-East music industry.

This is a competitive process and we don’t shy away from that. We select based on the information you send us and look for artists who show promise, have experience of being an independent artist, have a clear idea of what they want to achieve with during the residency, and who will benefit from this opportunity.

We will let you know if you’ve been selected by Monday 14th September.

If you haven’t been selected this time round you will be able to request a short piece of feedback. This may be in writing or a 10 minute phone call.

If you’re selected we will set up a 30 minute video call with one of our team to talk you through the programme in more detail. It will also give you the chance to ask any questions you might have before joining us in October.

How many people apply and how many will you choose?

We expect to receive around 50 applications for 10 places.

I’ve never been to The Glasshouse, what’s it like?

You’ll receive a warm welcome from all of the team here. We look after you during your visits to make sure you have all the support you need with creative and practical things.

You can have a look inside the building’s main concourse using Google Maps.

The Concourse has a great view across Newcastle and the River Tyne. There is a co-working area if you fancy a change of scenery away from your rehearsal space. The building will be closed during your residency so the café won’t be open. Don’t worry we’ve got you covered with all the coffee and tea you might need! You’re also welcome to bring your own food and eat in the Vardy gathering space or in your rehearsal room. Plenty of parking is available, there are bus and metro routes nearby. Please note that the metro is wheelchair accessible but unfortunately mobility scooters are not permitted.

Can you help me find musicians for my project?

You need to know the amount of musicians that will be joining you during the residency before applying. If you’re selected for the programme you should bring together the musicians you need before you start the residency. There are some social events planned throughout the week which may lead to you working with another artist taking part. However, this can’t be guaranteed.

If I receive financial help, how does it work?

We can support with food and travel costs up to £25 per day per person. This will be available to you for the full days you are at Autumn Studios.

What happens after Autumn Studios?

We’ll support you for 12 months after the residency. This could be one or two meetings to talk about next steps with Rianne our Artist Development Producer. Or offering you some feedback on a funding application. We can also send you monthly Artist Opportunities via our newsletter (make sure you sign up if you haven’t already)!
