We want everyone in our community to feel welcome and included.
And that’s why we’re excited to be working behind the scenes to become a Theatre of Sanctuary. This means we’re dedicated to being a safe, friendly, and supportive space for refugees and asylum seekers in our region. Our building isn’t just a place for gigs and performances; it’s a lively spot where people from all walks of life can come together, share experiences, and feel at home. We want everyone who walks through our doors to be greeted with a smile and feel part of a creative community of music lovers.
Our vision
We aim to bring people together to experience the joy of music, celebrate diversity, and promote understanding and empathy. By becoming a Theatre of Sanctuary, we’ll create a community where everyone feels valued and included.
We invited refugee and asylum seeker families to The Big Family Gig – an afternoon filled with music and connection. Watch our video to see more.
A warm welcome in action

What we're doing now
We’ve already started several initiatives for communities seeking sanctuary:
- Free tickets: we offer free tickets to our shows to make incredible live music accessible to everyone.
- Musical Connections: we have positive collaborations, from workshops and a garden celebration with The Comfrey Project to new music making plans with Action Foundation’s Young Lives group. We also plan to welcome 50 guests for a festive music workshop before The Snowman in Concert.
- The Planter Project: next time you’re in the building you might spot a lovely new planter on our concourse, which is a partnership with The Comfrey Project. We’re growing herbs and plants that are used to make tea around the world, tended to by volunteers from The Comfrey Project.
- Communi-TEA Events: We will be hosting regular tea parties using the herbs grown in the planter to bring different communities together, spark new conversations and build new connections.
- Staff Training: we’ll all receive regular training to better understand and support refugees and asylum seekers.
- Hot drinks: our café offers free tea and coffee, making it a welcoming space for everyone.
