- Bag Policy
At The Glasshouse, we take the safety and security of all visiting and working in our venue very seriously.
Our staff and security team are trained and remain vigilant to ensure that all visitors are safe and have the best possible experience with us, we have many measures in place to assist with this – some of these measures are visible, and some are not.
The Glasshouse team collaborate closely with local and national authorities, security service members and neighbouring sites to keep our security procedures up to date and and aligned with best practice.
Help us keep everyone safe
Security is everyone’s responsibility, so help us keep you safe by reporting anything that doesn’t feel right to our security teams and staff. Our teams will take every report seriously and you won’t be wasting their time.
Here are some quick tips to help you have a safe and enjoyable time
- Arrive early, allowing more time for any security checks and measures.
- Be patient with security checks. It might seem inconvenient, but they are in place to help you.
- Keep it simple and minimise what you carry. Fewer bags to search will speed up entry.
- Stay alert and look out for each other. If you see something that doesn’t feel right, tell security. Don’t leave it to someone else.
- Don’t leave bags unattended. Never agree to look after a stranger’s bag, no matter how genuine they seem.
- If there is an incident, listen to staff and any announcements

Bag Policy
To keep everyone safe, we regularly carry out checks on all bags when you arrive. To help with this, make sure you leave some time for security checks when planning your journey, and try to keep what you bring to a minimum.
Small bags are fine. But if you have a backpack (of any size) or a bag bigger than 210mm x 297mm (that’s the size of a piece of A4 paper) then you’ll need to leave it in our cloakroom (free of charge) though space is limited.
Refusal of a bag search means we can’t let you into the building. We appreciate your support with this.
If you have medical or access requirements, we can make exceptions – just let us know ahead of your visit and we’ll make a plan with you. Contact Box Office on boxoffice@theglasshouseicm.org or give us a ring on 0191 443 4661.
From time to time, we may need to update our bag check procedures based on advice from our security team. If anything changes, we’ll make sure to keep you informed.
