Who’s on stage
The young violists aged 30 and under taking part in the Cecil Aronowitz and Lionel Tertis International Viola Competitions 2025. This first round takes place across two days in Sage Two and Northern Rock Foundation Hall.
What they’re playing
Each competitor will play for around 15 minutes from a set list of music by J.S. Bach, Ligeti, Paganini and Kathy Tagg. Move between Sage Two and Northern Rock Foundation Hall throughout the day to hear a bit of everything and pick your potential winners.
Need to know
Pricing: £10 per session (plus handling fee). Your ticket allows you to move freely between the two competitions.
Age: under 14s must be accompanied by an adult.
Timings
Cecil Aronowitz International Viola Competition
9.30am – 12pm | Northern Rock Foundation Hall
1.30 – 3.30pm | Northern Rock Foundation Hall
Each contestant will perform:
- Two movements of solo Bach from one of the Cello Suites, Violin Partitas or Sonatas.
- A new commissioned test piece by Kathy Tagg.
Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition
9.30am – 12.50pm | Sage Two
1.50 – 5.10pm | Sage Two
