The European Doctors Orchestra 20th Anniversary Concert
Heartwarming. Exhilarating. Celebrating Life.
The European Doctors Orchestra is what it says on the tin. Over the past 20 years, 460 doctors, drawn from 23 European countries, have performed 37 concerts in 14 countries, supporting 26 health and children’s charities. On this third visit to the Glasshouse, they combine with a 100-strong choir, comprising mostly health care workers, and two rising stars, conductor Constança Simas and soprano Jessica Cale, to present a programme of music guaranteed to raise the roof and the spirits.
Renowned for their energy and commitment, this 20th anniversary concert of the EDO will be an uplifting occasion for everyone, whether you are a seasoned concert attender or new to classical music. We are particularly keen to welcome health care workers to join us in a celebration of the work you do. Stop working for once, get together with your co-workers and friends, and enjoy a Sunday afternoon of joyous music together.
ALL proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to our partner charity, St Oswalds Hospice.

All about the music
The theme is ‘Celebrate Life’. The programme is full of memorable tunes, toe-tapping rhythms and full-throttle joie-de-vivre. Ravel’s Alborada del Gracioso sparkles with the infectious energy of Spanish dance music. In his Gloria, fellow Frenchman Francis Poulenc ecstatically defines his vision of compassion for all humankind, tearing up the rulebook of sacred music in favour of something universally accessible. We then present a new commission by award-winning composer Elena Kats-Chernin, in honour of the 20th anniversary of the European Doctors’ Orchestra. Finally, the 20th century American composers George Gershwin and Aaron Copland celebrate the sounds, romance and optimism of post-war Paris and the delirious swagger of the Mid-West in An American in Paris and Rodeo. Don’t miss what promises to be a thrilling afternoon of music.
