What's happening in the music?
One of the most intriguing performers and composers of today, Héloïse Werner, comes to The Glasshouse for an evening that includes the world premiere of her new piece, The Cuckoo’s Hour. The entire evening is centred about a ‘clock’ of musicians, with Héloïse at its centre. Time will pass via twelve 5 minute pieces, with the sound moving clockwise around the room, intensifying gradually from piece to piece. As the clock strikes the hour Héloïse marks the moment in suitable style…. An evening totally out of the ordinary, let Héloïse and Royal Northern Sinfonia take you under their wing for an astonishing hour in the intimacy of Sage 2.
Clocking up some tenuous links
Maybe unsurprisingly the concept of time is one that classical music quite often touches on. NPR radio in the US has come up with a list of 5 classical pieces which feature time and clocks, with (unsurprisingly) Haydn’s Symphony 101 ‘The Clock’ heading it up. Read the full list.
