Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings at The Fire Station, Sunderland

Who’s on stage
Maria Wloszczowska directs Royal Northern Sinfonia for the first classical concert of our season in Sunderland. They’re joined by incredible soprano Rebecca Bottone.
What they’re playing
Our season opener is a real showstopper. Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night) is a seriously indulgent piece of music – rich, luxurious, almost impossibly romantic. Benjamin Britten’s piece for voice and strings is music that’s direct and powerful in a quite different way: spare, tight, and full of suspense. Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings is a lush soundscape that’ll leave a warm glow as you head out into an autumn night.
