Sibelius' Second Symphony

Who’s on stage
Royal Northern Sinfonia is reunited with old friend Thomas Zehetmair, the orchestra’s former Music Director.
What they’re playing
Sibelius’s Second Symphony feels like good company from the start – music that’s amiable and warm spirited. Later on there are gorgeous, expansive musical vistas to be had and Sibelius ratchets up the drama as the piece goes on, ending in blaze of glory and triumph. Mendelssohn’s ‘other’ violin concerto, composed when he was just 13, is a lively delight.
This performance includes a free pre-concert talk at 6.30pm in the auditorium.
