Watch. Repeat. Time to make some news.

Radiomaton is a participatory digital installation by Marie Béland and Simon Laroche, co-produced by Montréal Danse and Maribé – Sors De Ce Corps.

In a photo-booth-like cubicle, users repeat words from live radio while mimicking on-screen gestures, creating a fragmented, kaleidoscopic performance. This 5-minute experience explores truth, media, and the body’s role in processing information.

Part of Gateshead International Festival of Theatre (GIFT).

About the installation

“Radiomaton is an immersive and participatory installation that blends dance and digital arts. This innovative work invites participants to step into a photobooth-like cabin, where they are challenged to repeat aloud words from a live radio broadcast while mimicking gestures that are teleprompted to them.

By exploring themes such as the construction of truth, media influence, the spread of “fake news,” and the role of the body in perceiving and transmitting information, Radiomaton places participants in a state of cognitive overload. This reveals the vulnerability and authenticity that emerge when social filters dissolve. Each performance is filmed and remixed into a vast collective kaleidoscope, creating a dynamic interplay of gestures and voices that highlights the fragility of the validity of the content we consume daily.

Radiomaton offers a unique opportunity to explore, through one’s own body, how media shapes our movements and minds. Engaging, thought-provoking, and deeply human, this installation invites you to question your relationship with information and the world around you.”

Presented with support from Quebec Government Office in London.
