Newcastle International Chamber Music Series: Bradley Creswick and Margaret Fingerhut
Beethoven Sonata No.8 in G, Op.30, No.3
Vaughan Williams The Lark Ascending
Korngold Much Ado About Nothing Suite
Farhad Poupel Duo for violin and piano (commission)
Brahms Sonata No.2 in A, Op.100
We are delighted that Bradley Creswick, for many years the immensely popular leader of Royal Northern Sinfonia, is performing a complete recital. His longstanding duo partner, Margaret Fingerhut, has enjoyed a varied career as a concerto soloist, recitalist and chamber musician, and enjoys exploring the ‘highways and byways’ alongside the standard piano repertoire.
The sonatas by Brahms and Beethoven are firm favourites of performers and audiences alike. Farhad Poupel is a young Iranian composer whose international reputation is growing rapidly since his professional debut in 2019. This will be the premiere of the specially-commissioned Duo. Korngold, now best known for his violin concerto and film music, was a child prodigy whose incidental music to Shakespeare’s play was written when he was nineteen.
Farhad Poupel’s music immediately captures the audience’s attention. Whether ethereal or intense, the harmonies and melodies are fused with love, passion, and colorful sonic landscape. Jeffrey Biegel, Classical Pianist, 2020
