Martin Kohlstedt has released six albums including his latest “Feld” released in March. “Feld” and Kohlstedt’s past albums: “Tag,” “Nacht,” “Strom,” “Ströme,” and “Flur” along with their respective reworks, have been met with international recognition.
Kohlstedt has a knack for combining inspirations and influences from fundamentally different worlds, turning them into something that feels more like a living body than a list of pieces.
He describes his work as modular composition and his pieces never take a definitive form, evolving during live performances through improvisation. Through this, Kohlstedt shows courage and a willingness to interact with the audience, space and context making each performance unique.
Martin Kohlstedt is a serial collaborator who has joined forces with the Leipzig Gewandhaus choir and artists like Douglas Dare, Sudan Archives, Henrik Schwarz, among others as well as labels like Warner Classics.
Kohlstedt goes beyond composing for his own discography by also writing music and scores for movies, plays, podcasts and audiobooks. He runs his own label known as “Edition Kohlstedt” and is committed to his responsibilities as an international artist by running a reforestation project close to his birthplace.
