Lammermuir Festival Closing Concert

THIS EVENT HAS PASSED

Who’s on stage

Principal conductor Dinis Sousa is at the helm for this evening’s performance with Royal Northern Sinfonia. Ever-energetic violinist and artist partner Maria Włoszczowska shines as soloist in the concerto.

What’s happening in the music

The two most influential early Romantic composers, Mendelssohn and Schumann, make a great pairing for the final concert of the festival. Schumann’s Violin Concerto, composed at the end of his life and still very much a rarity in concert, is a gloriously lyrical, heroic work perfectly suited to Maria Wloszczowska’s sweet-toned virtuosity. The sparkling beauty of Mendelssohn’s enthralling Shakespearian score brings the 2024 Lammermuir Festival to a magical conclusion.
