Inside Music: Horn player Katy Woolley with music that works on our emotions
Broadcast Live on BBC Radio 3
Katie Woolley takes time out from performing in orchestras all over the world to come to Sage Gateshead where she gives her insights into a wide range of music. She’s especially interested in what each composer does to make us experience emotion as we listen – and how simplicity is often the key to a truly moving performance.
Inside Music is the programme on Radio 3 which gives listeners the chance to get to know a selection of music from the inside with a leading musician.
Katy Woolley is one of the world’s leading French horn players. She was born and brought up in Devon and as a teenager made the long trip to London every weekend to further her musical studies. A first class degree from the Royal College of Music, the principal horn chair of the European Youth Orchestra and more horn lessons in Berlin led to Katy being appointed Principal Horn of the Philharmonia Orchestra aged just 22. She played with the orchestra for seven years before recently deciding to explore other avenues as a soloist, freelance orchestral player and teacher.
